AV-in – Get more from your GPS

(miobuzz.tv) As we all know, a GPS device is designed to help people navigate along unfamiliar roads. But much of the time we drive along routes that we know very well, and therefore have no need for a GPS device. So how can we use our GPS for something else? What else can the display and speakers be used for when the device is idle?

Entertainment is the first thing we can imagine. Since GPS’s with larger displays have become mainstream in recent years, features like the media player and digital TV receiver have been integrated into GPS devices for on-the-go entertainment. For example the Mio Moov V700 series, released in 2009, is a fully integrated navigation and multimedia device aimed at providing a rich entertainment experience with a luxurious 7” display, free-to-air Digital TV receiver and multimedia player for watching movies and playing music from the SD card. But how can we expand the idea by using GPS’s for things other than entertainment?

The built-in AV-in port on the GPS has answered the question. AV-in, as its name suggests, provides users with a solution to play video and audio through the GPS device in the same way as DVD player or games console images and sound are sent to a TV. Many luxury cars extend the use of their in-dash systems by having it connected to a rear-view camera therefore allowing the driver to see exactly what is happening behind him without turning his head, therefore helping to avoid accidents. However, if you don’t have a luxury car, with a Mio GPS that has an AV-in port you can install an off-the-shelf camera to the rear of your car and connect it to the Mio GPS to have the same benefits.

So, by connecting a camera, a portable media player or digital TV receiver to your car your GPS will never be idle. Use your imagination and get the most from your GPS on the road!
